November 2004: The ELLE charity auction

The ELLE magazine organized an auction with personal objects donated by the Romanian VIPs. The collected fees are to be donated to UNICEF for endorsing the “Baby Friendly Hospital” program, part of the Health and Nutrition projects, sustained by UNICEF Representation in Romania. The goal of this UNICEF project is supporting the Romanian Health Ministry in its struggle in applying the new initiative “Baby Friendly Hospital”, in 19 maternity houses throughout the country.

ELLE magazine and UNICEF have raised 33.290 Euro for the maternity house from Piatra Neamt.

The money will be used for the aquisition of new equipment and furniture. The mother and the baby will stay together 24 hours a day till getting out of the hospital.

More then 30 object were donated for this auction by the Romanian VIPs. Jewels donated by the soprano Mariana Nicolesco and Angela Gheorghiu and the actress Maia Morgenstern and Daniela Nane, manuscript signed by Mircea Cartarescu and Horia Roman Patapievici, the sport jacket used by Ilie Nastase at Roland Garros in 1973, an old typewriter and a pen from Marius Tuca, many art objects donate by Cesaria Evora, Andreea Raicu, Mihaela Geoana, Dana Nastase, Ioan Nemtoi, Agnes Toma, Alessandra Stoicescu.

Almost half of the amount obtained from the auction came from Mihaela Radulescu. "I have a very well-founded reason to support the ELLE project: the first child of my brother died 10 years ago in the maternity house from Piatra Neamt due to inadequate conditions."
The most expensive object sold was the typewriter donated by Marius Tuca and bought by Mihaela Radulescu.

A great interest was granted to "Calea Dudesti" ink on the paper, signed by Tia Peltz (donated by Andreea Raicu) and finally bought it by Teddy Dumitrescu (Focus Publicis).
The Evenimentul Zilei edition from 1949 (donated by Cornel Nistorescu) was bought by Dragos Grigoriu (Tempo Advertising).
